The XXC route is on private property. The route is closed unless permission is granted by the property owners. Floydfest festival offers a guided tour of the route with team Moonstompers and individuals interested in a pre-ride are encouraged to join their event. The state roads, and dirt climb up Belcher Mountain is open to the public, riders are encouraged to view this mountain prior to the ride.

XXC Route (60K)- The XXC route will consist of a police escorted neutral start 2.5 miles down VA Route 40, cross VA Route 8. A audible signal will be provided indicating the start of the race. Racers will hammer out some beautiful back country pavement for approximately 2 miles before the road leads to one of the best Cat 1 dirt road climbs in Virginia. The 3 mile, 1500 foot climb on Belcher Mountain Road will test every riders fitness, mental toughness, while rewarding each participant with breathtaking views of the Piedmont at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains. A KOM award will be awarded to the Top Male and Female who reaches the summit first. Racers will have the first aid station to refill water, and relax before the next leg of the race.
Following Aid Station one, riders will continue approximately one mile on the dirt road before making a right turn on Pisgah style back-country trail (begin timed enduro). Riders will immediately be greeted by one small climb before all Hell breaks loose on this white knuckle, roller coaster descent down the single and double track. Approximately 2/3rds way down, the trail becomes extremely technical for 100 yards, the most technically sound riders will manage to make it with out dabbing, but most mortals will opt for the sneak bypass on the right of the tech section. Tech riders will have an opportunity to make up significant time in this section. After bypassing the tech section riders will finish the final 1/3rd of the descent with an uncontrollable smile. The trail enters a old apple orchard and after 1/2 mile approaches (finished timed enduro) the intersection with VA Route 8. Police will assist racers with the road crossing. After crossing VA Rt. 8 riders will navigate through 9 rideable refreshing creek crossings in Griffith Valley. After blasting the creeks at the base of the mountain riders will make a left onto Woods Gap Road. Racers will have one brute short climb then continue on the paved road for a short distance before taking a logging road into the trail system at Dehart Park. Racers will enter into the singletrack. After a 6 miles riders will cross the timing line and will ride one full 15 mile lap of Shiner's Revenge Race Loop. This trail has improved each year, with miles of pristine hand-built trails with incredible rock gardens, fast descents, and all around top notch trails. The race loop within the park is 15+/- miles. Racers will complete the 1 mile expert section at the end of the lap which dumps racers into the main park and within a short distance the sprint finish is on!! Get Ready for the best XXC south of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
XC Course (10-15 miles)- The 2017 Shiner's Revenge will offer the beginner and sport classes an opportunity to race without the difficulty or distance of the XXC route. Distances will be based upon category. Depending on category racers will complete one or two laps of the Shiner's Revenge Race course. This 10/15 mile +/- race course offers some of the best XC racing in Virginia. Navigable rock gardens, ledges, fast descents, tight singletrack, and beautiful forests with make the race even more enjoyable for any participant. Awesome prizes & trophies will be awarded to the top 3 in each class. We look forward to seeing you at this years race!!!

The program builds, maintains, and improves trails in Patrick County, Virginia using non-violent inmates, Trustees, who work alongside Sheriff's Deputies to develop community outdoor recreational opportunities, increase tourism, and rehabilitate incarcerated individuals through community service.
